The Phu Nam Rom border crossing in western Thailand’s Kanchanaburi province will reopen tomorrow for the transportation of cargo between Thailand and Myanmar. Governor Jirakiat Phumsawat, who can also be the chairman of the provincial communicable illness committee, issued the order today to reopen the Phu Nam Ron checkpoint, which sits reverse Myanmar’s Tiki checkpoint. Bizarre says the Covid scenario on the opposite aspect of the border in Myanmar has improved.
Bangkok Post says the Phu Nam Ron-Tiki crossing is mostly used to move cargo between Thailand and Myanmar. The same order stipulates that the Dan Chedi Sam Ong checkpoint AKA the Three Pagodas Pass crossing, which also sits reverse Myanmar, will stay closed until Sept 14. Jirakiat says the Covid scenario close to that a half of the border still remains very severe as the number of infections continues to climb.
The Phu Nam Ron and Dan Chedi Sam Ong checkpoints had been closed many times due to the Covid pandemic. The latest closure lasted from Aug 5 to Aug 31. The border between Kanchanaburi and Myanmar first closed late final month..
